Former Sri Lankan all-rounder Russel Arnold made interesting comments on BCCI replacing Hardik Pandya with Suryakumar Yadav as the T20I captain for the Sri Lanka series.
Speaking to a sports channel, Arnold cited Pandya’s poor performance in the 2024 IPL as one of the reasons for his replacement. He added that Pandya failed to gain respect from the BCCI, prompting the governing body to explore other options.
However, BCCI chief selector Ajith Agarkar stated that Hardik was replaced due to fitness issues.
After helping the Gujarat Titans win the IPL trophy in 2022, Hardik Pandya switched to the Mumbai Indians, replacing Rohit Sharma as captain. Under his leadership, MI won only four matches.
Praising both Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya, Arnold acknowledged their exceptional abilities but noted that the BCCI considered other factors, such as IPL performance.
With India starting its campaign against Sri Lanka on July 27, the focus will now shift to Suryakumar Yadav, while Hardik will look to regain his form.
